Beyond BAR

Simply download, choose a server, and play. It really is that easy!

Beyond BAR is an open source launcher fork, meaning you can review it on GitLab and build it yourself it to ensure its safe.

Before using Beyond BAR on Windows, you must already have Beyond All Reason installed. Download it here. On Linux, Beyond BAR is a standalone launcher and runs in place of the official one (see the Linux instructions below).

Download and run Beyond BAR Setup (Windows) or the AppImage (Linux).

It will not affect any of your BAR preferences/hotkeys/etc. You can uninstall it at any time to restore the original launcher.

Start BAR as you normally would.

The launcher will now provide choices to allow you to specify your own server to connect to or choose from an automatically populated list of community servers. You can of course disable custom server connection and connect to the "official" default server as well.

Click start and enjoy the freedom of choice.

Linux (x86_64, AppImage) — a single portable file, no installer. Unsigned community fork, not affiliated with or endorsed by the Beyond All Reason project.

  1. Download the AppImage, make it executable (right-click > Properties > Allow executing, or chmod +x BeyondBarLauncher-0.2.0.AppImage), and run it.
  2. Run it instead of the official Beyond All Reason launcher. Close the official launcher first: they share one data directory (~/.local/state/<title>), so an existing install is picked up and only one can run at a time.
  3. Some distros (Ubuntu 22.04+) need FUSE 2 for AppImages (package libfuse2). If it isn't installed, run it with --appimage-extract-and-run.

Custom server selection works the same as on Windows. Version 0.2.0.
